We walked in to the Dalston branch of Barclays at 11am, where there was one police officer and one community support officer waiting to greet us. A Barclays staff member asked if she could help us and we said that we needed Barclays to pay their fair share of tax. We then sat down to set up a Big Society library, including 'staff recommended' books that could help the customers understand why we were there. We also had two medical staff on hand offering free blood pressure checks. The helpful doctors explained to patients that corporate tax avoidance was bad for everyone's health and offered sticking plasters to anyone suffering from deep cuts.

We chanted a bit (quietly though, it's a library) and had story time where one UK Uncutter read Mr. Greedy to everyone in Barclays. Flyers were handed out both inside and outside the bank and we had great conversations with the customers, most of whom were not only supportive but in complete agreement with our cause. One customer even 'checked out' The Best Democracy Money Can Buy by Greg Palast. Hopefully he will come to the next protest and 'return' it.

Barclays staff were very friendly and accommodating. At one point, a customer asked a staff member what we were doing and she explained briefly and encouraged the customer to come talk to us about it. There were reports that the police particularly enjoyed hearing Mr. Greedy and fully agreed with the moral of story.
